December 3rd, 2010 kicked off the 'Made in Clarkdale' Art Exhibition, an annual event held at the Clarkdale Club House to highlight artists that live in our local area. One requirement of being in the show is that each artist will work with students from Clarkdale; showing, demonstrating and teaching the students do to their own pieces in the medium chosen by the artist.
Oak Creek Ranch School's art teacher, Ms. Marsha Foutz is a resident Clarkdale artist in ceramics. Each year she creates a completely unique ceramic 'chess set' for the exhibit. One of Ms. Foutz's amazing creations is currently housed in the Guggenheim Museum in New York. As part of her responsibilities, Ms. Foutz helps OCRS art students transfer their knowledge and skills to Clarkdale elementary students. IN December, OCRS students spent afternoon in Clarkdale showing these young artists how to make clay artifacts. OCRS students also had the opportunity to view the work of other local artists and talk with them in depth about their work.
"This is an example of 'experiential learning' and 'community service' all wrapped into one great package for the holidays" remarked OCRS Headmaster, David Wick, Jr.
Principal Mrs. Nadine O'Brien added, "Ms. Foutz is an inspiration to us all. We are proud of the work she does in the community and the tremendous impact she has on developing the talents of our own OCRS students."
