Students Test Their Skills Online While Helping The World's Hungry

Thanks to Mr. Ireland’s suggestion, FreeRice.com is a big hit with my Freshman class. The web site challenges students to test their skills in a number of subjects - as they answer questions correctly the 'earn' free rice to be contributed to feed the world's hungry. The site was developed by the World Food Programme as a 'green' way to help the world's hungry while fostering education and learning.

Not only are our OCRS students enjoying using the computers to test themselves with vocabulary and grammar, they’re sincerely aware of the food/rice they are raising for the World Food Programme. Right now, the classes are having a contest to see who can collect the most rice. The winner will receive a Dollar Menu item from me … a small price to pay.

P.S. Other subjects on this site are Math, Geography, Foreign Languages, Chemistry and Art!!
