The OCRS soccer season was one of the usual ups and downs experienced in any sport. Our team lost the championship game in an exciting shootout to finish in second place in our league. They battled back from a 1-0 first half deficit to tie the game on a second half goal by Andrei G. The team celebrated as though they had won the World Cup! Tied at 1-1, the teams entered the tension filled shootout desperate to win. The opponent won the shootout 4 to 3 on the last shot of the match. Although disappointed our team felt that they had left everything they had out on the field that day. They left the game with heads held high after having given an outstanding effort. Coach Yassi was very proud of his team.
There were many positives during the season. Several of the players had never played soccer and others had not played since they were six or seven years old. But they came to practice, worked hard, and learned how to kick and pass the ball, and how to play as a team. It was gratifying to see the more experienced players like Evan H. and Kaden M. help the inexperienced players like Christian G., Adam R. and Dominic G., learn to play. Soccer is the ultimate team sport and during the season the team came together and improved steadily. Zac B., Kristean L., Evan H., Logan H., Andrei G., Brittany K., Travis S., Kayden M., Adam R., and Jose W. deserve special recognition for their perfect practice attendance. They displayed great leadership all during the season.
