Field Day, Oak Creek Ranch School’s version of a mini Olympics, was held May 3rd. The entire student body participated in this annual day of competition and fun. Events ranged from kayak racing, tug of war and a pentathlon, to various track and field events including an OCRS favorite, the Jell-O-slurping contest!
The Field Day activities were held on the beautiful campus of OCRS, beginning with a ‘team centered’ problem solving exercise that prepared the students for the rest of the day’s events. After the competition, everyone was treated to a delicious BBQ lunch prepared by our acclaimed chef, Gerda Shea, while they anxiously awaited the results of the ‘top male and female athletes’ tabulation.
This year’s awards went to two outstanding athletes, Andrei G. and Kaitlin M. The ‘Best All Around Team’ award was presented to the enthusiastic group of students led by faculty member and coach, Mr. Tony Hernandez. Following the awards ceremony, everyone received their 2010/2011 yearbooks and spent the rest of the afternoon signing yearbooks, relaxing by the creek and recovering from the morning’s challenging activities. The energy level didn’t remain low for long, as Chef Gerda appeared just in time, with her own award winning hot fudge sundaes. ‘The day couldn’t have ended any better!’ remarked OCRS Principal, Mrs. Nadine O’Brien.
Thank you to OCRS students, faculty and staff for making this day such a tremendous success!
